I founded the Heritage Arts Company with David Wright in 2007 while we were performers with Punchdrunk. The company had the remit of bringing life to the forgotten stones and stories of the country.

In 2011 Mat Burt joined as a director of the company. We began to move towards producing rather than creating work, and in particular towards programming groups of artists for third parties, such as Standon Calling, Shunt, Ideastap, the Roundhouse, Google and many others. I produced a few festivals for the Old Vic and Ideastap, and became interested in the format.

So in 2012 VAULT Festival launched, with artists programmed mostly from my work with The Old Vic and Ideastap. The event quickly overtook anything that the Heritage Arts Company had done to date.

When Andy George joined as a third director in 2014, the Heritage Arts Company began another new chapter, with VAULT at its heart, and far higher practical output. We produced many more agency-style events for third parties, and created the growth that the Festival needed to survive.

I moved on from Heritage Arts in 2018.
